Gathered

A warm, wood-lined family level in a historic Victorian, made for craft, music, wine and film.

The remodeled level of a San Francisco Victorian: a deep sofa beside an oak-lined window bay, with a lit piano wall of oak shelves and cabinets beyond

The family asked for a place where their kids could make and create, and where they could share a glass of wine and settle in to watch a film. They wanted it warm, cozy, and full of wood.

It also had to belong to the house. This is a historic Victorian, and the new level needed to feel connected to the original building rather than set apart from it. The design stays modern and comfortable, while the original house’s baseboards and crown moulding carry through, tying it to the rest of the home.

Light oak runs through the space: a wall of shelves and cabinets frames the piano, a curved niche holds a bar and a collection of blown glass, and a slatted panel slides aside to reveal the wine. A craft nook sits beneath its own window, close to the family room.

A second phase, an addition and a further interior remodel, is next.
